The Top 8 guys performed tonight for their final chance to make it into the Top 12 finalists on Idol. First up tonight was Lee Dewyze and sang
“Fireflies” by Owl City. I thought it was a pretty good performances but it wasn’t his best. Randy thought it was a strange song
choice, had some pitch problems, but made it his own. Ellen liked that he made it a little rock and thought it was great. Kara said he looked
confident tonight and thought he made it a better song than it normally is. Simon said there’s nothing to rave about and he didn’t have a
moment with the song. However, he’s seen him progress and he thinks he has a good shot in the Top 12. I agree with him in the Top 12 for
sure! Next was Alex Lambert singing “Trouble” by Ray LaMontagne. Randy said it was a good song choice for him, but he wasn’t
wowed. Ellen thinks he’s getting better each week and loves his innocence. Kara said the only thing that is standing in his way from winning is
him. He needs vulnerability and just to be himself. Simon said he needs to relax and have a good time. He needs to think of something else while he
performs. I think Alex has a good shot of making it into the Top 12 because of his unique voice. Tim Urban decided to try and sing Jeff
Buckley’s “Hallelujah” and I really thought it was great. It was probably the best I’ve heard him sing so far in the
competition. Randy thought he did a pretty good job. Ellen went on stage to hug him and said it was fantastic. Kara thinks he’s in it and that
it was an honest interpretation of the song. Simon said he was smart with that song and was terrific. It was the strongest performance he’s
given in the competition so far. I think Tim has definitely come back from behind and has earned a spot into the Top 12. Andrew Garcia decided
to take another risk by singing “Genie in a Bottle” by Christina Aguilera. I actually kind of liked it and thought he seemed confident.
Randy liked his cardigan, thought it was an interesting song choice but it was pitchy all over. Ellen thought it was a great song choice but liked the
end the best. Kara said he’s in a hard position because he peaked so early in the competition. She said he was fighting with the rhythm of the
guitar and it just wasn’t great. Simon agreed with Kara and said he seemed a little bit desperate and that he over thought the song. Poor Andrew
is having trouble finding his sweet spot in the competition. Following Andrew was Casey James singing “You’ll Think of Me”.
Randy thought it was a safe song choice and it was just alright. Ellen thought it was great and that he sounded great. Kara said that she’s
kinda back on the Casey train. It was an honest performance and nd he was doing what he does best, but he’s still missing the spark. Simon said
it made him sincere but it wasn’t anything that we’ll rave about. Casey isn’t standing out like he did in the earlier rounds for
me. Aaron Kelly chose to sing “I’m Already There” by Lonestar and I thought it was quite pitchy. Randy thought it was really
good but he needs to improve. Ellen loves him but thought it was a tough song for him to sing. Kara also loves him but thought that the song
didn’t have any relevance to his life because he’s only 16. Aaron said he’s telling a story with the song. Simon disagreed with Kara
and thought that it was the right type of song for him to sing. It wasn’t a great vocal but it had emotion. I think Aaron might be leaving after
that performance. Toddrick Hall took another risk by singing “Somebody to Love” by Queen and surprisingly, I really liked his
performance. I love that song and liked how he put some soul into it. I think it was the best I’ve heard him so far in the competition. Randy
said that he’s back and just proved that he can really sing. He thought it was one of the best vocals that he heard tonight and from the past
few weeks. Ellen said he’s brave, made it almost like a gospel song, and did a good job. Kara said it was really good singing but it was almost
too dramatic. Simon said it was good in parts and told him the kind of artist that he is, which is a Broadway singer over a recording artist. He also
said at least he made an attempt to perform, it was a good song choice and it may have saved him. I think it may have saved him too. Ending
the show tonight was Michael Lynche singing “This Woman’s Work” by Maxwell. I thought it was a very good vocal and the best
I’ve heard him sing thus far. Randy said it was unbelievable and it seemed like he couldn’t believe how good it was. Ellen said it was
beautiful and thinks he’s the one to beat. Kara was brought to tears and said she’s never cried after a performance. The song was relevant
to his life and she felt it in his performance. Simon said he 100 percent nailed it, it was the best performance of the night and of all the live
shows so far. Yeah, this was a great way to close the show. Great job, Michael!
Tonight my favorites were Tim, Andrew and Michael. I’m
really torn on who should go home aside from Aaron. Maybe Toddrick or Alex? I’m not sure! We’ll have to find out which 4 contestants
barely miss out on making it to the Top 12 tomorrow night. Tune in to see who makes the cut!
