Someone’s dream was crushed tonight on Idol as one contestant was voted out of the Top 12. Before the drama started, David Cook took the stage to perform “Jumping Jack Flash” and kicked ass like he usually does. Something weird was going on with his hair, but he sounded great.

Then the group’s first music video was shown to the song “Tick Tick Boom”. They also got to work with Ford designers to customize their own fiesta graphics for cars, which actually seemed really awesome. Next it was time for some results. Paige was told she was in the Bottom 3 right away. Lee, Siobhan and Aaron were all told they were safe. Between Andrew and Tim, I would have put Tim in the Bottom 3 because I think Andrew has more potential than he’s been showing the past few weeks. America agreed and put Tim in the Bottom 3 as well.

Then singer Orianthi performed her single “According to You”, which is quite a catchy song and it actually growing on me. I did think it was a little weird that she didn’t have any facial expressions while she sang though.

Back to the results. Didi, Crystal, Katie and Michael were all safe. It was down to Lacey and Casey and I had a feeling Lacey was in the Bottom 3. My feeling was right. So I guessed 2 out of 3 of the Bottom 3 yesterday. But actually, I think that Paige, Tim and Lacey are all the weakest singers between the Top 12 and especially considering all performances since they started this season, so America got it very right.

Then Tim was sent to safety, leaving it between Lacey and Paige. Before any further results were given, singer Keisha performed “Blah Blah Blah” and you could tell she’s an amateur performer. Still, I kind of like her catchy songs, but I don’t like her seemingly conceited attitude on stage.

Time for the final results to be revealed. Obviously, I would have sent Paige home over Lacey. I haven’t found her voice special this entire competition and have been a Lacey fan from the start. I know Lacey doesn’t have the strongest voice but she’s really unique and I adore her. Alas, Lacey was sent home and Paige was sent to safety. She re-sang “Story” which she sang a few weeks ago as the judges chatted about whether or not to use the Judge’s Save on her. Recall that the judges can only use the save once per season, so it’s literally a given that they wouldn’t use it on the first elimination of the Top 12. Last year they saved Matt Giraud, which had to be one of the coolest moments in Idol history. Anyway, they didn’t use it on Lacey, so she was officially sent out. This was sad and really, I don’t think she should have been the first one to go home. I would have thought in a couple weeks yes, but not the first one out. I would have thrown Tim, Aaron and Paige all out before Lacey.

Anyway, what’s done is done. 12 are now down to 11. We’ll have to see how things go next week as the Idol hopefuls have a new theme to tackle and more judges’ criticism to deal with. Stay tuned!
