Sorry guys! My DVR hasn’t been that dependable lately, so I’ve missed a few episodes. Luckily, I got to watch tonight’s episode and
give you guys the update! 7 Idol hopefuls have already made it through to the Top 24 from yesterday’s episode. When the show started tonight,
there were 37 people left to be told if they made it or if their dreams were cut short.
Janelle Wheeler was the first one shown. We’ve
seen her in previous episodes and one of her highlights was singing “American Boy” on the guitar during Hollywood Week. Simon told her
that night that he couldn’t remember who she was prior to that performance. She also had a rough Group Day performance and stumbled through her
final performance on “Love Story” by Taylor Swift. Even so, the judges liked her enough to put her through to the Top 24. I think
she’s pretty great too!
We’ve also got to see rocker Tyler Grady so far in the competition. He sang “Let’s Get It
On” for his initial audition, but his song choice for his last performance, which was “Home” by Daughtry, didn’t let his voice
shine as it had previously. While sitting in front of the judges, Kara said he’s very 70s, and Tyler said that his Idols are from the 60s and
70s. He too made it through to the Top 24. I like Tyler too – he seems pretty unique.
It was Lacey Brown’s second time to walk to
the judges and be given results and she had gone through the auditions twice before. She beautifully sang “What A Wonderful World” during
Hollywood Week that impressed the judges enough to put her through to the next round. This girl also seems unique, which seems to be a pattern this
year for Idol. Briefly shown also making it were Ashley Rodriguez, Alex Lambert and Joe Munoz.
Crystal Bowersox sang “You Make Me
Feel” during Hollywood Week and had everyone impressed with her talents. She’s been keeping her son’s picture with her throughout
the whole competition. All 4 judges wanted her for the next round and she was pleased. Her son was there to greet her for the good news. She stands
out for me and I think she will bring some good rock moments to the table for Idol this season.
Katie Stevens has been shown many times to us
as well as her story of her caring greatly for her grandmother with alzheimer's. During Hollywood Week, she sang “For Once in my Life” by
Stevie Wonder and shined. She too made it through. There are definitely a lot of strong contestants this year! This was Angela Martin’s third
time and had been prevented in previous years to finish her Idol process due to her father being killed and her being in jail. This year, she came
back a more confident and stronger woman, hoping for a shot. She excelled during her group performance but didn’t stand out during her solo
performance in front of the judges. She was crying as she walked to where the judges were. Kara asked to sit with her and started telling her how
special they think she is and how much she’s improved in just one year. Sadly, she didn’t make it, and it broke her heart. It seemed hard
for Kara to deliver the news, but she tried to be motivational for Angela and asked the other judges to join in as she was telling her how great she
is and to not give up on her dream. She was very emotional about not making it through and it was pretty sad to watch.
Lilly Scott’s
jazzy style impressed the judges during Hollywood Week for her first performance, but she had a rough rehearsal with the band that carried into her
performance in front of the judges for her final performance. Kara asked if she thought she stayed true to herself and she said yes. The judges put
her through to the Top 24.
Also making it through were Paige Miles, Siobgan Magnus, Michelle Delamor, Jermaine Sellers, and John
Park.
Only 2 girls remained at this point - Haeley Vaughn and Tori Kelly. The girls were shown speaking to the judges separately, which is
something different for this season of Idol.
Tori told the judges she thought her last performance was the most fun she’d had on stage in
awhile. She sang “Hot and Cold” with the band and looked like she did have a good time. She sadly didn’t make the cut through, and
was very sad about the news. I would have picked her to make it through.
Simon told Haeley that at times she’s great and at times
she’s annoying. Even so, he said she’s super talented and that she adapts well. The judges put her through, finalizing the Top 12 girls
for this season of Idol. She does kind of annoy me, so we’ll see what she brings to the table next week.
The final 2 boys remaining were
Thaddeus Johnson and Andrew Garcia. Thaddeus was shown first to greet the judges. His mom has been with him throughout the Hollywood process. His
last performance had a rough start, but then he made it work and did very well. Even so, he didn’t make it and got very upset about it. Simon
told him that he didn’t do anything wrong and was great, but if that was true, Thaddeus didn’t understand why he didn’t make it
through. He continued to be emotional after the news was given to him.
At this point, we know that Andrew Garcia has made it through, but he
didn’t know yet. The competition means everything to him because he wants to provide for his son. He really showed his style when he sang
“Straight Up” in his own version during Hollywood Week. When he was told that he made it, tears of joy streamed down his face and he was
very happy to hear that his work had paid off. This moment almost made me cry! So there you have it! The Top 24 have finally been announced and
next week we get to really see how well they are. Here’s the full list of the contestants:
