Hi friends! Tonight’s episode was down to an hour, which made the show go by pretty quickly. There were no clips shown before the contestants
performed as they were just jumping right into singing. The show started with Ellen randomly sitting in Simon’s lap, which was amusing. Katie
Stevens performed first with Kelly Clarkson’s “Breakaway” and seemed to listen to the judges by choosing a younger song to sing.
What she didn’t do was perform the song all that well. I didn’t like that song for her voice and I felt bad for her since she’s
normally a much better singer. Randy said the song was too big for her and it didn’t work for him. Ellen liked that she picked a younger song
but that she wasn’t feeling the lyrics. Kara thinks that she has a great radio voice but she just doesn’t know who she is as an artist.
Simon said she did take their advice but, as Kara said, she doesn’t know the kind of artist she is. She made the song gloomy, but gave 10/10 for
trying. I think Katie might be in trouble after that.
Siobhan Magnus chose to sing “House of the Rising Sun” by The Animals and I loved it! Her voice is haunting and beautiful.
She looked adorable tonight and she is so random every week. Randy likes that she surprises them and takes risks. Ellen said she’s the reason
for why she loves music and that it’s supposed to move you. She said she made the song current and it was spectacular. Kara loved that she sang
a cappella at the front of the song. She is so unique and different that we’re surprised week to week. Simon disagreed, saying that it was weird
and it didn’t do anything with the song to make it different. He was under impressed and thought she was better last week Up next was
Lacey Brown who sang “The Story” by Brandi Carlile. I still adore this girl and thought this was her best performance in a long time. She
seems so comfortable performing. Randy said it was a little boring but that it was her best performance in a long time. Ellen agreed and said it
sounded like the song was written for her. Kara said performances like that are why she’s in the competition. That’s the kind of record
she needs to do. Simon didn’t’ love the song choice but thought she sang it really well. He said she looked comfortable and like
she’s been performing for years. He did say that he hasn’t heard her connect in the right way with a song yet and she’s in danger of
being forgotten. Katelyn Epperly chose to sing Carol King’s “I Feel the Earth Move”, and sadly, it was not my favorite
performance of hers. I did like the ending of her song. Randy said he didn’t feel like she connected to the song and nothing special about it.
Ellen didn’t think it was the right song to choose and that it wasn’t good enough. Kara felt like she wasn’t competing on the
stage. Simon liked her hair, but chose a simple song and did nothing special with it. He thinks that it may have been a mistake for her tonight. I am
hoping she’ll get another chance because I’ve really liked her the past two weeks. She said she was trying to not be corny, but I guess it
didn’t work for her. Following Katelyn was Didi Benami. She sang Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon” and I really enjoyed it.
Her voice sounded great and it was probably my favorite performance of hers this season. Randy said it was way better than last week, but wasn’t
sure if there was a wow moment during the performance. Ellen thought it was a lovely performance and gave her props for coming back strong this week
after last week’s emotional feedback. Kara said it was one of her favorite moments of the show this season and Simon agreed. He said it was way
better than anything else tonight and it was the first time that she proved she’s an artist. He also said her wow moment was the entire
performance and also was happy to see that she handled the criticism well from last week to this week. Paige Miles chose to sing
“Smile” by Charlie Chaplin and it was instantly a bad song choice. I thought the arrangement was weird and her voice sounded weird on the
song. This wasn’t how she normally performs and she just sounded way off. Randy said that is one of his favorite songs of all time and that it
really didn’t work because it was too big for her. Ellen thought the performance was sad and heavy. We didn’t get to see her personality
in the song and it was not the right song to choose. Kara just agreed with the other judges as did Simon, calling it a “peanut
performance” and a shame because she had so much potential. After that, he thinks it could be the end of the road for her, as do I. Paige tried
to explain her emotions due to being a big Michael Jackson fan and he recorded a version of the song, but this didn’t seem to connect with why
it was so hard for her. Poor thing. It really wasn’t good at all. After Paige was Crystal Bowersox, who sang “Give Me One
Reason” by Tracey Chapman and was absolutely fabulous! It was a stellar song choice and was all around just amazing. Randy said this is what the
show’s about - he loved the performance, the song, and her. Ellen said she needs new adjectives to describe Crystal and called it the best of
the night. Kara said she knows who she is and it’s easy for her to perform because of that. It was a great song choice. Simon said one million
billion percent into the Top 12 next week and that she’s the one to beat. I have to agree Simon – this girl’s got
“IT”. Wrapping up the night was Lilly Scott singing Patsy Kline’s “I Fall To Pieces”. Randy said he loved song
and loves her. Ellen loves her voice and originality. Kara said she managed to make Patsy Kline feel current and contemporary. Simon said that
she’s brave for choosing that song. It didn’t have a wow factor but it was cute and quirky. I liked it, but I still haven’t seen her
stand out like she did two weeks ago. She needs to bring that vibe back to the show. So tonight my favorites were Siobhan, Lacey, Didi and
Crystal. I’m sure that Paige is out and I’m thinking either Katie or Katelyn too. I favor Katelyn over Katie, but it’s sad when the
real talent starts to leave the show. Tomorrow night will be the guy’s turn to try and stand out. Remember that the show is on an hour later
than normally! Tune in to see who will fight for their spot in the Top 12!
